The La Navicelle
estate has 17 hectares of wines. It is located in the
Côtes de Provence appelation, at the foot
of Mont de la Colle Noire, in the village of Pradet.
The domain's history is lost in the mists of time. What we do know for
sure is that the Navicelle name and sailing
ship emblem have been used on the label since the 18th
century.
The word "navicelle" comes from "navicert",
a special licence giving free passage to the ship of a former lord of
the manor in time of war.
His ship was called "Navicelle", and it was
only natural that he should name his wineyard after it.
the red wine, and part of the rosé,
is made from Syrah, Cabernet, Grenache and Mourvèdre grapes.
The estate also produces a Tibouren rosé.
The white wine is made with the Ugni Blanc and Rolle
varieties.
Selected red wines are aged in oak barrels.
An orange-based apéritif drink is also produced.
The rosé is a blend of free run juice and press wine which is
cold-filtered and fermented for at least three weeks at 18-20°C.
A computer keeps track of the temperature and automatically sets the
cooling element in each tank into motion when necessary.
The wine is estate bottled, and put into traditional Bordeaux-shaped
bottles.
Domaine de la Navicelle wines are mainly sold at the estate, both and
in bulk.
